Playing Tennis Again
ALTA, I’m back!
Twenty-two months ago was when I last played ALTA. Yesterday I made a very successful return. I received an email from an old friend who said that his team was in need of some new players to keep from having to default several positions. The timing was right (no softball) so I said yes.
I was very nervous as he put me in the number one spot in the lineup. I’m sure that I looked like a person that hadn’t played in two years during the warm-up. The first time that the ball was hit to me I almost freaked out because the ball looked so small. Two years of catching softballs trained my brain to think that yellow balls should me about 12 inches.
Once we started playing, it all came back. I felt really good on the court. I didn’t loose my serve or have any double faults. My forehand was my best shot, and I even had a couple nice backhand returns. My partner certainly helped as he was an excellent player. We won quickly, 6-1, 6-3.
After the match the opponent asked me where I played college ball. I couldn’t hold back my response and I told him that not only had I not played college tennis but that I hadn’t picked up a racket in almost two years.
