Thanksgiving in St. George

For Thanksgiving this year we rented a house in St. George. A usual retreat for us in the summer, visiting this time of year was a first. The temperatures were in the mid 70s during the day which made for perfect weather for sitting on the beach. We enjoyed a lot of walking both along the beach and along the frontage road. It appeared that only about half of the houses were rented.

This was our second visit to this house. It appears that the house has new owners who had made some very nice upgrades to the house. The living room furniture had all been replaced and there were flat screen TVs in all the bedrooms. The kitchen was well stocked for all of our needs during the week.

We arrived Sunday afternoon and unloaded the car. Then we drove into town and did our grocery shopping for the week. We got everything that we needed except for the fresh fish. We cooked a pork loin one night, salmon another, and the my famous fish tacos.

On Thursday we had another long walk in the morning and then started cooking our first Thanksgiving meal. Klare cleaned the turkey and we got it started in the oven. I helped with a few of the sides and we watched football and had a few drinks. Klare’s friend Courtney, her husband Anthony, and their little daughter Sloane arrived in the evening just as the bird had finished cooking. They brought a couple of sides and we had a great meal.

On Friday everyone went to the State Park where we walked on the beach and a new boardwalk that overlooked the bay. For dinner we went to the Owl Cafe. The food was as good as always.

On Saturday we spent our last hours on the beach. I attempted to make a sandcastle car, just like Papa used to do when I was a child. I don’t think it turned out as well as his did. On Sunday we made an uneventful trip home.

The rest of the pictures are here.
